I thought that sounded crazy - who goes into a coma from getting a cut on the chin? Question But that boy needs some mental health counseling. ASAP.

Sometimes trauma's side effects don't show up until much later so I believed the story. But I was thinking he caught one of them seizures that all the rappers are catching lately and that, you know, the word for seizure in mandarin probably sounds like "coma" so TMZ got it twisted. Lost in translation and whatnot. Yeah. That's what I was thinking.

After his public persona was dealt a crushing blow with the "Harriet Tubman" Sex tape spoof backlash, Russell Simmons attempted some damage control with an in-depth interview with HuffPost where he explains how he interpreted the spoof and why the controversy went over his head (initially). He also talked about working on series-like projects about Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman (hmm...), and why he wishes the new generation of rappers were socially conscious like Public Enemy.

Oh, and he talks about all the threats he dealt with during that Public Enemy era. Here are the highlights:

You made headlines stemming from a Harriet Tubman sex tape parody that surfaced on your All Def Digital channel. Were you surprised by the backlash?

I was surprised by how big it was. I expected "B-Rock" and some of the other stuff on the channel to cause controversy, but I still maintain that comedy should push the edge. I misunderstood the underlying implications and I'm deeply sorry for that. Because I thought the slave took advantage of and blackmailed the slave master. That's what I thought. "Django," whatever…and I liked "Django." I'm not Spike Lee. I ain't a hater. I thought "Django" was good. And I thought that's what that was.

And then once someone explained to me what it was, for the first time in 30 years I took down some content. I never took down a piece of content in my life. They shot up my office over Public Enemy. They had people under the desk hiding. Snipers were outside of my office. I was told not only would they throw me out of Columbia Records if I didn't get rid of Public Enemy, but that no other record company would take me. And I didn't quit. And now Public Enemy is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…So I've been through it. But in this case I understood how hurt people were, especially black women. And it just made me feel like, "I don't want to do that. I don't want to be that kind of source of pain for that many people." So I pulled it down instantly when I understood it. So it is what it is. It's behind me, I hope. It's a different world.

As a father of two daughters, are you concerned with how the message from the clip may be perceived if they viewed it?

I didn't understand the clip as being nothing but her taking advantage of the slave master. One of the activists who had planned on boycotting me was at my house along with some students and I said, "You know, I didn't understand the rape thing." She said, "what about the implication that a woman has to sleep with someone to get ahead?" And I don't think that's what it said. Instead, she was taking advantage of the slave master. That's what I thought. I totally get if it reminds you of the previous rapes, because obviously it appears that she's seducing him. But it implies the previous rapes.

And so, making that jump I didn't do it. I might have a sensitivity chip missing. I made a horrible mistake and I'm deeply sorry.

Aside from the controversy, you're also in the process of developing projects based on Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman.

I'm doing a seven-part mini-series on Frederick Douglass. With serious support to develop that. And now because of this public discussion I've been talking to the family [of Harriet Tubman] and they said why don't we develop something…why not, I'm reading with every writer in Hollywood that can make Frederick Douglas, they are the same writers who can make Harriet Tubman. I have a take on Frederick Douglas, I think. We have to develop that take on Harriet Tubman. It probably won't be a mini-series. It might be. But i think it's easier to really tell a story to more people through television. People are saying it's a documentary because I mentioned it on Twitter. But no, I'm interested in doing a feature or a mini-series on a television network.

What are your thoughts on Kendrick Lamar's much-talked-about verse on Big Sean's "Control"?

I thought it was ok…It was good. I liked Jay Electronica, too. He's great. I like Kendrick Lamar. The verse was good. It's pro wrestling. It's not hurtful. Nobody got mad at him. It just gave us the chance to talk about who's the best. That's what a big part of rap is about, competition.

What's the one thing that you would like to see happen among today's hip-hop generation, musically, that's lacking from previous years?

When I first started out was one thing, but there was a moment in time where Public Enemy inspired a whole generation of people to be more conscious of what they can do for other people. More conscious of the struggle of their community. More conscious of the oppressors. I would love if they woke up in the morning and say that corporations run the country and not the people. That the politicians work for the corporations instead of the people. That this became a really normal subject matter. That the way poverty is growing, and the rich are getting richer.

I would love for all the rappers to talk about civil rights, animal rights, gay rights. I would love for them all to become progressive voices…But I've learned to accept people as they are.

‘True Blood’ Star Rutina Wesley Ends 8-Year Marriage
By Suzy Byrne | omg! – 3 hours ago

Rutina Wesley is no longer sinking her teeth into marriage.

The 34-year-old actress, who is best known for playing Tara Thornton on the HBO vampire series "True Blood," filed for divorce from her husband of eight years, actor Jacob Fishel.

Wesley cited "irreconcilable differences" in the divorce papers, which were filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on August 16 and obtained by E! News. She listed their date of separation as July 22, and asked the court not to award her soon-to-be ex-husband spousal support.

The couple, who has no children, were married in June 2005 after meeting as students at Julliard.

"We were in the same class," she told Essence in 2010. "We thought, 'if we could spend four years together at this crazy school, then we can make it the rest of our lives.' He's an amazing actor, cook and husband. I enjoy him immensely."

However, in a recent feature in Us magazine, she hinted it wasn't love at first sight. On her list of 25 Things You Don't Know About Me published in June, the first item on her list was: "I hated my husband when we met in school. He was so good at Shakespeare."

Why Wentworth Miller Revealed He’s Gay
By Raechal Leone Shewfelt | omg! – 13 hours ago

Wentworth Miller is not staying silent.

The "Prison Break" star, 41, has revealed that he's gay as an indirect response to Russia's anti-gay laws.

Russia passed a law last month that prohibits the public discussion of gay rights and relationships anywhere where children can hear it. In June, the country adopted a law that bars the adoption of Russian children by same-sex couples and couples who reside in a country that has LGBT acceptance policies.

When Miller was invited to be guest of honor at the upcoming St. Petersburg International Film Festival, he wrote a letter, which was posted on the GLAAD website, explaining exactly why he wouldn't attend.

"Thank you for your kind invitation," he began his letter to the festival's director, Maria Averbakh. "As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes. However, as a gay man, I must decline.

"I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government," he continued. "The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly. Perhaps, when and if circumstances improve, I'll be free to make a different choice."

She was supposed to be the surprise grand finale.

But Brandy found herself performing to a near-empty stadium after concert-goers left ahead of her spot at a concert in South Africa. The annoyed singer walked offstage after two songs at the FNB stadium in Soweto on Saturday for Mandela Sports And Culture Day.

The stadium holds up to 90,000 people and had been packed throughout the day in celebration of the life of former president Mandela.

But with the packed schedule almost finished it emptied out before Brandy made her big entrance. While Brandy is popular in the country, her surprise performance was not revealed to the fans - who left thinking the day was over. According to the Guardiannewspaper there were no more than 40 people present.

'Brandy performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on,' tweeted South African musician, Kabomo.

'People didn't know there was a concert after the games. No one knew Brandy was around. Maybe a 40 people audience... She sulked after two songs and walked off.'

Other Twitter users couldn't believe their eyes. One user, Crazy Girl Tutu, tweeted: 'I gave up the min I saw the empty stadium. Brandy performing for the chairs!'

And another user, Dawn Ngwenya, wrote in surprise: 'Well Brandy is going to perform for herself and Mbaks only. Stadium now empty.'
Mbaks is the South Africa's minister of sport, Fikile Mbaks. Brandy's publicist could not be reached for comment.

I still have no clue why that Teyana Taylor child is famous, but her body is crazy.

About Brandy...why didn't the organizers just announce her as the closing act when they saw people were leaving? It takes a long time to empty a 90,000 seat stadium. Laughing

RAP TOUR BUS
STANDOFF IN OKC
Cops Suspect Drugs On Board
EXCLUSIVE0822_2chainz_bus_wm

update_bar
7:48 AM PT -- Cops have finally obtained a warrant and entered the bus ... and immediately placed several passengers under arrest for "interfering with police process" for locking the cops out of the bus.

We asked cops if 2 Chainz was one of the people on the bus -- to which we were told cops are not sure, but we're told the bus is "connected" to the rapper.

A tour bus connected to Lil Wayne's concert tour has been pulled over in Oklahoma and cops suspect there are drugs on board ... but the passengers have locked themselves inside and REFUSE to cooperate, TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement tells us ... the bus was pulled over around midnight because its taillights were out. And when officers approached the vehicle, they noticed signs of drug use and wanted to board the bus.

But the driver told cops he wasn't letting 'em on ... and locked the door ... and told cops they had to get a search warrant before he would unlock the doors.

It's unclear who's on the bus -- but we're told Wayne and T.I. (also on the tour) had left the city on private jets before the incident. 2 Chainz is also part of the tour -- but no word if he's on the bus.

Cops eventually towed the bus (with the people inside) to a nearby police training facility ... while they wait for a judge to issue a warrant.

Stay tuned ...
