Are you kidding me? Has the entire sports world gone money crazy? Now there're instituting PPV for a high school basketball. I got so upset that I threw the damn paper away. Don't even remember the name of the school or the player who is suppose to be so good that the school wants us to pay to see him play on TV. I know some of you have heard about this.
Anyway, will the player get any of the revenue? Hell no. Thats against the rules. The school will make bundles because I know sports nuts will pay. Then, they want to know why kids turn pro out of high school.
Something else thats pissing me off. Jessie Jackson is organizing a protest againt the Augusta National Golf Club if they don't admit a female member before next year's Masters in April. He calls it an insult to all that America stands for (oh please) and, the sponsors should withdraw. Hey Jessie. Read the sport pages. Augusta has already informed all of the sponsors that they will sponsor the Masters themselves. THERE WILL BE NO SPONSORS! Has Jessie run out of issues?
What else is pissing me off in the world of sports? Those NFL pre game shows that last longer than the damn game. If you watch that stuff in its entirety, you're worn out before the game starts. And how was your day?

The high school player that your speaking of, that wouldn't happen to be LeBron James, would it? He was on the cover of Sports Illustrated in February.
Although I definitely don't approve of the high school basketball PPV, I don't have to purchase it, either. Same thing goes for the NFL pre-game shows. I hardly ever watch them, and I'm an ardent NFL fan. If there's money to be made, there are people that going to explore that avenue.

Hello, room.
LeBron James has a ton of pressure on him as a high school kid. He's become yet another one in the lines of "The Next Jordan" and is considered the top prosepct in the NBA draft this summer. For his sake and the sake of the team that drafts him, I hope he doesn't become the next Felipe Lopez -- a ballyhooed shooting guard who went to college for four years, was overrated during his career at St. John's and has been a bit player in the NBA.
Personally, I wouldn't pay to see a high school kid play ball on pay-per-view. How impressive can the games be, watching James take on a 6-foot-2 center and being guarded by kids who most likely aren't good enough to play at the collegiate level? I can watch him come off the bench in the NBA next year for free.

We must have been reading the same thing because I was going to create this topic.
Personally I don't care how talented he is, it's STILL going to be an uphill climb when gets in the league. I agree about the pressure and frankly I think he should still go to school and NOT for the cliche, "education" reason either.
What I find sad most is that it seems the Cavs are tanking their season already in hopes of drafting him.

Love it all. Sports fans are basically suckas and in some ways elistists these days, so if there's a market for pay-tv, I'm for it. Why give it away for free or force folks through endless commercials. The NBA is only showing one of their Conference Finals on free television this year and soon we'll have a cable tv Finals. With so much money bet on the Super Bowl, it's only a matter of time before they begin charging to watch the spectacular. Good for them.

Comeon.....you joking right? 10 games into the season and you can tell that a professional basketball team is "tanking their season already in hopes of drafting" this young man????

I have NEVER used PPV for anything myself. I just have not seen anything worth it. I'm not a big boxing fan and if its not on cable or network, I don't see it.
I just feel the school officials who set this thing up should really think about what they are doing to this kid. Where the hell are his parents? Why are they allowing the school to make money off him and put that type of pressure on him at such a youmg age? I mean, this is high school for crying out loud.
What about the other kids on the team? Do they feel pressured to pass to him every single time down the court because people are paying to see him? I don't know peeps. It just doesn't seem right to me. Maybe I'm just too old school for these times.

Then you have nothing to really fuss about then. You're pissed that there might be high school basketball pay-per-view, but you've never ordered anything on pay-per-view before? C'mon, dude. Would this be any different if his games were featured on ESPN or some other cable network? Somebody will still be getting paid, nah mean?

Yeah I know what you mean bro. Its just that I don't like the fact that they're turning high school sports into a money making thing. Taking the real fun from the kids and using them to stuff their pockets.
As much as love baseball, I didn't watch the Little League Series on ESPN. I use to coach little league and never would that kind or any other kind of pressure on my kids like that. Theres enough coming once they get to college. JMO

Damn......
Anyways, here's why I say this. Lucas brought Lebron in to workout with the team over the summer that caused them to receive HUGE fines from the league. Cleveland (a team for some reason I've liked through the years) has extremely DISMAL attendance damn near comparable to Atlanta's. There is NO doubt in my mind after the team traded away Andre Miller for Darius Miles (yes, this trade is turning into another lopsided trade) when they could have gotten more for him that they're gearing up for the LEBRON chase.
A local that could fill those blue seats.

Lopsided for who?
Just wondering.

For The Clippers.
Right now for Cleveland (even though Dre isn't doing all that) they literally have two BACKUPs manning their point in Pilatio & Bimbo Coles. Damn, why didn't they keep Brevin Knight if they were gonna do this?
So you trade a floor general who literally CAN and has the ability to get others involved involved for a defensive highlight reel who is a TERRIBLE shooter. I'm DON'T think Dre is worth max money he said he was worth in Cleveland but he could have yielded something more than MILES.

Now about Lebron James the kid is 6-7 with range. Unlike Felipe Lopez he has been groomed for the NBA and because I live in the same area I have seen him play. I know some of his family and he is rather modest in that he takes everything as something he can learn from. He is a very coachable kid unlike some of the premadonas that have come out before him. If he choses to go straight to the NBA then fine if not then thats a decision he will live with. Why are you comparing him to Felipe??? Is it that he was a high school phenom??? Lebron is being compared to Kobe by Kobe's former coaches. Now I don't agree with the whole PPV shit but to me its not about that its about the character and ability of the young man you are questioning. If you don't like PPV for High school ball then don't get it! Its that simple.

Hi Scribe:
Are you another poster here?? Both of your post describing Lebron sound awfully similar. Time for me to really break this down.
Now about Lebron James the kid is 6-7 with range. Unlike Felipe Lopez he has been groomed for the NBA and because I live in the same area I have seen him play.
I thought he was taller, good for him. He STILL should get some seasoning at the NCAA level. Good you've seen him play. I saw KG and Marbury play while in High School also. (more on KG later)
I know some of his family and he is rather modest in that he takes everything as something he can learn from. He is a very coachable kid unlike some of the premadonas that have come out before him. If he choses to go straight to the NBA then fine if not then thats a decision he will live with.
If the kid is so "coachable" then surely he'd wanna refine his talents and school the D-1 boys right? After all, college basketball has really sunk in the last few years with the mass early defections along with a drop in fundamentals. Besides, he'll only be playing with guys who are only 2 years older than him. So it won't be much different than now right?
Lebron is being compared to Kobe by Kobe's former coaches.
I wouldn't care if he was compared to Wilt. So what these coaches are saying that. All it takes is a lot at ANY draft during the first round and you'll notice all the PICKS have some rave review from various coaches.
Now I don't agree with the whole PPV shit but to me its not about that its about the character and ability of the young man you are questioning. If you don't like PPV for High school ball then don't get it! Its that simple.
Fuk that! What, people can't speak out what they don't like about anything now?? Give me break. Question, what does this kid have to gain coming out early outside of a FAT CONTRACT?? Oh yeah, a "fat" contract but surely he'll give you all the cliche's, "it's not about the money". So then go to school and refine your skills.
Of course then all the naysayers will talk about the guaranteed DOUGH being missed but then I "thought it WASn'T about the money" which in essence is what IT's ALL ABOUT!
Like I said, I thought he was taller and in that case I'd make an exception similar to KG. Main reason, depending on where KG went to school, most coaches would have stuck him at the 5 spot which is NOT his strength. But KG is a unique talent.
Back to Lebron. Lets ask(lets see) Eddy Curry, Tyson Chandler, T-Mac, Kobe even, Jermaine O'Neal who are all on record saying how tough the transition coming into the pros is. Now surely you're saying, "nobody said he's gonna be a star/rookie of the year" but my issue is that I don't think that DRAFT pics should be used for PROSPECTS. There used to be a time a team could actually look forward to a first round draft pick ACTUALLY making a difference. Those pics are few and far between now and that day was a long time ago.
If this kid is all that, trust me, there is some college offensive system that he could fit in where his talents can shine. But playing amongst guys who 90% of them will NEVER play anything remotely to competive professional level of basketball (I'm talking about high school kids) and putting up ridiculous numbers DOESN'T IMPRESS ME!!
How is this kid going to deal with adversity? How is he going to deal with NOT being the GO TO MAN and knowing HOW to move without the ball when he has LITTLE to no experience doing it? (this right here is usually what kills most people going to the next level let alone the NBA). How is he going to deal with facing guys JUST as good more than likely BETTER than him??
Well we'll see because some gullible GM ( ) is probably going to make him there pick and we'll see how he does.
PS: Thanx Shaq, MJ, John Lucas and the other guys who are buying into this along with making this kid seem like he's the 2nd coming..

Hello, room.
Well, Marz is right. The Cleveland Cadaver-liers ARE tanking the season to get more Ping Pong balls for the opportunity to draft Lebron James. The team gave up 125 points to the woeful New York Knicks on Monday, and didn't even try to guard the Knicks' offensive players anywhere past 10 feet. It was funny hearing Fred Carter and Tim Legler absolutely dog Cleveland for its shoddy effort.
Here's something I don't understand about "Freebase John" Lucas -- considering he's already on the hot seat for his job, why is he compounding things by DELIBERATELY tanking his team so badly for the opportunity to get James? It seems like he's purposely benching and suspending Ricky Davis (who sat out Monday's game as part of a two-game suspension for -- get this -- yelling at Tyrone Hill during Friday's loss to Philadelphia) in order to lose games. It's not like Cleveland is going to make the playoffs as it is, but at least put forth your best effort.

luckily he seems to have survived despite his mom's, Gloria Marie, who fancies herself the next Ann Iverson
Turning pro after 11th grade. When a reporter asked Glo if LeBron would consider skipping his senior year, she chirped, "Who wouldn't?" By now she had become the town's unofficial loose cannon. She'd attend games in a "LeBron's Mom" jersey, shouting, "Yeah, baby, we going to the bank," and rushing the court whenever an opponent low-bridged her son. "I had to put an end to that -- she was getting a bad name for herself," LeBron says. "Around the house, I call her Miss Ann Iverson or Iverson's Mom Part II." Says Glo: "Ann ain't got nothing on me. Matter fact, me and Ann may turn out to be good friends."

f*** PPV, i think the real deal game comes on tv thursday night on "the deuce".
LeBron's team (whoever they are) are supposed to play the big boys from Oak Hill Academy, VA, Thursday Dec. 12th on ESPN2 at 7:30ET/4:30PT.
i may check this out just to get my first look at him. and also, this will probably be the best competition he's had to face so far. ought to be interesting.
