Many of the people from AO came over in the late 1990s from the old Black Voices boards.[/b] People's attitudes, priorities and interests change over a 15-year span. The people who started posting together in their 20s and early 30s are in their mid-40s to 50s now. Not to mention the online landscape has changed dramatically from the days of the AO messageboard. AO's membership never seemed to expand beyond the old Black Voices alumni.[/b] With no members in the pipeline, AO basically became stagnant in both content and interests where it seemed the same topics were being regurgitated. Moreover, the format of AO never changed in all these years, which is suicide for a technology-driven social media pattern. [b]3.) Several members negatively dominated topics to the point where it became a pain to comment on AO.[/b] Instead of the administrators banning them from the site or implementing some sort of "Ignore" button where a person can have the option of not seeing that person's posts, these members were given carte blanche to run roughshod over topics and members. Years ago, I was looking for an AA type chat room and found this message board through a search engine I was using at that time - Yahoo I think. AO is my first message board experience. I use to be a member of BlackPlanet "back in da day" when it first started. Their chat rooms were running wild at that time. I am still into chat rooms, but now I spend most of my chatting time on IRC chat rooms. I was just a 22-year old punk...LOL Those were the frontier days, I swear. It was fun back then, now not so much.
